Puss in Boots

A miller left his youngest son a single inheritance: a cat. The young man was sad, but the cat told him: «Don't worry, master. Give me a pair of boots and you'll see what I can do».

With his boots on, the cat began to hunt and bring gifts to the king on behalf of his master, whom he presented as «the Marquis of Carabas». The king was delighted by such generosity.

One day, the cat learned the king was riding in his carriage by the river. He had his master bathe there and cried out for help. The grateful king offered fine clothes to the supposed marquis.

The cat ran ahead to the castle of an ogre who owned everything. Cunning, he challenged the ogre: «They say you can turn into any animal… but could you become as small as a mouse?». The boastful ogre transformed, and the cat ate him in one bite.

When the king reached the castle, the cat welcomed him: «Welcome to the home of the Marquis of Carabas!». Amazed, the king offered his daughter in marriage.

And so, thanks to his cat's wits, the young miller became a great lord, and the cat lived as the best of friends.
