Sleeping Beauty
Charles Perrault
In a faraway kingdom, a long-awaited princess was born. To celebrate, the king invited the fairy godmothers, who gave her gifts of beauty, sweetness and joy.
But a fairy who felt forgotten cast a spell: on her sixteenth birthday, the princess would prick herself on a spindle and fall asleep. The last fairy, kind, softened the curse: it would not be forever, but until love woke her.
Years passed. One day, exploring a tower, the princess found an old spinning wheel and, touching it, fell into a deep sleep. With her, the whole castle slept: the king, the queen, the cooks and even the cats.
Around the castle grew a forest of roses that guarded it, calm and silent, for a very long time.
Until a brave prince crossed the rose hedge, reached the sleeping princess and, on seeing her, woke her with a gesture of love.
The whole castle woke with her: the lights, the laughter and the music returned, and everyone lived happily.
…and they all lived happily ever after. 🌙
